Well this is my first blog so I am starting with my first article which I wrote for my college magazine.
Although the original article has been lost, I am trying to recreate it which might turn out to be different from the original one. The thought of writing on such a philosophical subject came when I was going through one of the worst phases of life.
It started me thinking that why is it always that we remember about the worst phases & forget all about the good memories. Is it a human psychology or the humans are programmed to be like this. A simple logic would be that bad memories & worst phases help you avoid similar environment when you go through a similar phase. Also it is true that grief/defeats are also very important for one to understand the true value of happiness/victories. Most of the times people going through bad phases will say that why god is doing this to them. Why is it that they have to bear the brunt of the whole humanity? They simply forget that they had lived better times before. Thinking about worse phases when you already are going through a rough patch drags one deeper in the quagmire. It is like having a flat tyres while you are going through 10 KM's of pothole filled road.
But again coming back to the subject that wouldn't it be better to think about the good things life has given you. This thinking should act like a cushion that atleast you have had something to feel good about. Or it could put your brain in brief trans like state to help you tide over the rough patch. It is always said that the "what goes around comes around", so one should take life like a circle where in both the good phases & the bad phases exist.
Based upon my experience, I would say the best approach is that when you are having a good time enjoy it but do remember of the bad experience. And the same while going through a bad phase do remember about the good times. This prepares you for the life to come. Its again like a perfect harmony, though that never exists, but again life is a harmony of bouqet of roses & bed of thorns.
Like a famous song by Bally Sagoo says - " phoolon ki kadr poocho us dard ke maare se jisne ta umr kanton par guzari ho" meaning the true worth of flowers is known only to the person who has spent a lot of time on a bed of thorns. So basically life is a mixture of roses & thorns which varies from person to person. And one should enjoy both of them with the same approach.
